Duke of York open — down-sized

Local characters you might be lucky enough to meet in the DoY. Sai Kung’s pub since 1988 the Duke survives despite the pundits’ worst predictions. The South China Morning Post declared it dead three years ago.

Sai Kung’s oldest pub, The Duke of York, has reopened in a single shop unit. Anna and Alan, the couple who own the business, have given up the second unit, saying the total rent of $150,000 is unaffordable. Staff member Bobby Yip said the popular pool table is gone, because there is not enough room for it, and the bar has shrunk. BUZZ hopes the Central Police Station sign will remain pointing to the loos.
